Fast forward to 2022:

Owning and operating a pool is very costly. Chemicals alone run about $5,000 a year, not including the maintenance needed. In May of 2023, the pool was repainted, The cost of that alone is $29,640.00! Due to state guidelines, we must make the facility ADA Wheelchair accessible and add a handicapped lift for lowering patrons into the water ($6,500).  Grants have been wrote to get our pool house re-constructed (total tear down) to accommodate ADA accessibility, covered bathrooms, and overall update the building from its original layout in 1966. We had an engineer draw up the new proposed plan and that cost estimate was $311,500. Is there a way a small community (with the smallest operating outdoor pool in Iowa) can afford that? Of Course!!  If you want to help, please consider donating to the “Pool House Fund”, The goal is to start construction after we close for the 2023 season, which will be here before we know it. Help us make this vision a reality! The City’s goal for the patrons is $300,000.00. Can we do it? YES! All donations big or small are worth the lifetime use of our pool. If you have any questions, please contact the City Clerk, Chelsee Jacobsen!
T
he new design will be the East half be bathrooms, and the West half for concessions/kitchen with a breezeway in the center of the building to allow a shaded place for patrons to enjoy the shade.
The City of Elk Horn is requesting funds from local businesses and residents to help offset funds for the project. As of today, through grant writing and in-kind donations, the city has raised $238,449.75! The City of Elk Horn is a tax-exempt local government entity and would be happy to provide documentation for tax purposes.

"The goal is to have this project funded just like it was in 1966, from the heart of our community."
