Elk Horn Public Library
Founded more than 75 years ago, the Elk Horn Public Library continues to grow and serve the residents of Elk Horn and surrounding communities. The library offers a wide range of resources, including books, e-books, DVDs, public computer access, and educational and recreational programming for all ages.
In December 2018, a 900-square-foot addition was completed to enhance library services and community use. This addition includes a programming room that connects to the children’s area and features its own entrance, a kitchen, a large open space suitable for programs and public meetings, and a handicap-accessible restroom. Additional storage space is located beneath the addition.
In recognition of its outstanding service, the Elk Horn Public Library was named one of only seven libraries in Iowa to receive the Library Journal’s America’s Star Library designation last year. Libraries are rated based on selected per-capita performance measures, including library visits, circulation, electronic material usage, program attendance, and public internet computer use.

- Books, DVDs, recreational equipment, e-books, audiobooks, cake pans, puzzles, and games available for checkout
- Free Wi-Fi and two public computers available for use
- Printing/Copying: Black and white copies at $0.10 per page
- Faxing Services: $1.00 for the first page; $0.25 for each additional page
- VHS to DVD Conversion: $3.00 per 2-hour DVD
- Interlibrary Loan: Cardholders may borrow materials from other Iowa libraries
- Library website with online resources, including language learning tools and research materials
