Elk Horn, Iowa is a small city in Shelby County with a population of 601 (2020 Census) and a proud reputation as a center of Danish heritage in America. Founded in the late 1800s and incorporated in 1910, the city takes its name from Elk Horn Creek and the elk that once roamed the area. Elk Horn is home to the Museum of Danish America and is known for its strong community spirit, rich history, and welcoming small-town atmosphere.
