Weekend Water Chores Assistant
Position Summary:
The Weekend Water Chores Assistant is responsible for conducting daily site checks of the water treatment plant, recording water usage, chlorine residuals, and other required measurements. Duties include monitoring pumps and chemical feed systems for proper operation, completing daily log sheets, and reporting any concerns to the supervisor. This role helps ensure compliance with state regulations, safe operations, and uninterrupted service to residents outside of normal weekday hours.
Hours are 7:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday, rotating weekends with other city staff.
Additional weekends may be available if more hours are desired.

- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Dependable with strong attention to detail
- Must be available to work weekends and some holidays (holiday shifts are paid at double time)

Job Description: Public Works Director (Full Time)
This is a key leadership position responsible for the operation, maintenance, and oversight of the City’s infrastructure, including water, wastewater, streets, parks, and the swimming pool.
Job Requirements & Certifications (or ability to obtain within established timeframe):
- Grade I Water Treatment Certification (minimum; Grade II required for lead operator duties)
- Grade II Water Treatment Certification
- Grade I Distribution Certificate
- Grade I Wastewater Lagoon Certification
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO)
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with air brake endorsement
Water Department
- Operate and maintain the municipal water system, including daily monitoring, backwashing, chemical mixing, and recordkeeping.
- Complete required state reporting (Monthly Operation Reports, Consumer Confidence Reports, testing, etc.).
- Inspect wells, tower, hydrants, and mains on routine schedules.
- Respond to water leaks, system checks, and Iowa One Call locates.
- Operate and maintain the lagoon wastewater system in compliance with DNR permits.
- Perform manhole inspections, pond monitoring, flow meter checks, and quarterly sampling.
- Coordinate with contractors on sewer line cleaning.
- Maintain grounds and fences around lagoons.
- Oversee seasonal opening, operation, and closing of the city owned pool.
- Order and apply pool chemicals, inspect equipment, and maintain bathhouses, shelters, and park grounds.
- Ensure proper mowing, trimming, and upkeep of City Park facilities.
- Snow removal for streets, alleys, and City-owned properties.
- Street repair and maintenance, including pothole patching, grading, and storm drain cleaning.
- Inspect and maintain street signs and sidewalks.
- Coordinate with engineers on larger street projects.
- Serve as animal control (stray and deceased animals).
- Assist with Fire Department operations when needed.
- Perform other tasks as directed by the Mayor and Council.
- Maintain professionalism, courtesy, and respect in all public interactions.
- Hours of operation are Monday-Friday 7:00am to 4:00pm with an hour lunch.
- High school diploma or equivalent (technical training preferred).
- Previous experience in municipal public works, utility operations, or related fields strongly preferred.
- Strong mechanical, maintenance, and equipment operation skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple responsibilities, and respond to emergency situations.
- Be self-motivated
- Must be available to work weekends and some holidays (holiday shifts are paid at double time)
Compensation & Benefits:
